Students from the Stax Music Academy just performed for three days in September at “FREEDOM SOUNDS: A Community Celebration, the grand opening festival for the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The performances included a show on the Freedom Sounds main stage on Friday, September 23, and on the Fanny Lou Hamer Stage in front of thousands of fans on Saturday and Sunday, September 24 and 25. The performance, as well as a segment pre-taped at the Stax Music Academy in Memphis, was featured on the NBC Today show Sunday morning with Emmy Award-winning journalist Harry Smith.
