The Stax Music Academy announced today that plans for its usual Summer Music Experience have changed amid the lingering COVID pandemic. Because so many area students have been isolated for the past year and music is something naturally done together and shared, Stax Music Academy summer plans now include four, one-week, in-person Summer Music Intensives with strict COVID 19 safety precautions still in place. The Intensives will be for vocals, instrumentals, songwriting & production, and drum line. The dates are as follows:
Vocal Intensive June 21-25 (7:30am-5pm), Register by June 18
Instrumental Intensive June 28-July 2 (7:30am-5pm), Register by June 18
Songwriting and Production Intensive July 12-16 (7:30am-5pm), Register by July 1
Drum line Intensive July 17 (10am-4pm), Register by July 1

MORE ABOUT THE INTENSIVES
Strengthen your chops as a singer. From breathing techniques to scales, vocal students who are new to singing will have a week to grow their skills and experienced singers will experience improvement.
Grow your skill set as an instrumentalist. Each day will include group lessons on your instrument, music theory, and group rehearsals. Students will record a final project with vocal camp students featuring the songs learned during the camp.
Songwriting and Production
Our songwriting camp will include writing, recording, producing, and releasing original music. Learn not only how to improve your songwriting skills, but also how to release your own music the right way. Class prerequisite: Sign up with a Performance Rights Organization by June 30th. As a minor this will require parent participation. Production students will learn beat making, sound design and more.
All drummers welcome. Drumlin Camp features marching, rudiments, cadences, theory, and technique classes. This experience is designed for participation in either the concert bands or a percussion ensemble.

It is the only music institute in the world that focuses on the musical art form known as Southern Soul Music and The Memphis Sound created at Stax in the 1960s and 70s and how the evolution of that music can translate into the original music students are creating today.
