This month, Stax Music Academy students took their creativity out of the classroom and into the field with a special trip to Newberry Tanks, where they recorded unique audio samples for an innovative sound design project.
The challenge asked students to build original audio environments for an imaginary setting, brand, or concept. After an initial project briefing, they explored sound libraries, recorded their own material, and used professional production software to shape their ideas into fully developed works. The process will conclude with a “final reveal,” where students present their projects and receive expert feedback.
More than just a technical exercise, this project encourages collaboration and imagination, while giving students hands-on experience with one of the most important elements of music and media production: sound design.
Thank you Newberry Tanks for opening up your doors to us and a special thanks to our Production Month sponsors, Riker Records, Universal Audio, ArtsMemphis, Tennessee Arts Commission, and Ford Blue Oval City, for helping make opportunities like this possible.
