Upcoming Workshops October and November 2019: Wendy Moten, Kameron Whalum, & Jozzy Donald

The Stax Music Academy offers workshops throughout the year for our students that are also open and free for middle and high school students throughout Memphis and the Mid-South. These upcoming workshops scheduled for October and November 2019 feature three of the most successful artists in the music business and they all have ties to Memphis. The workshops are:


Vocal Workshop and Critique

October 22nd, 4:30-6:00 PM

Online Sign-up for Vocal Critique 

  • GRAMMY-nominated Memphis-born singer
  • Featured vocals on Buddy Guy’s 2009 GRAMMY-nominated album Skin Deep
  • Featured vocals on Kirk Whalum’s album For You, including the single “All I Do.”
  • Back-up/duet singer for John Oates, Jim James, Larry Graham, Billy Idol, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Julio Iglesias.

Contemporary Horn Lines Workshop

 October 30th, 5-7 PM

  • Memphis-born singer and former Stax Music Academy student and Artist in Residence
  • Back-up singer and trombone player for Bruno Mars including smash hit “Uptown Funk.”
  • Studio musician for Beyonce
  • Performed at the Super Bowl with Beyonce and Bruno Mars



Songwriting Workshop: Hooks and Pop Music

Critiques for Original Music

November 12th, 5-7PM

  • Co-song writer and vocalist Lil Nas X – Old Town Road
  • Lyricist and Composer for Ashley O/Miley Cyrus “I’m on a Roll” 
  • Back-up singer for Little Mix – Bounce Back
  • Wrote “Welcome to the Party” on the Deadpool 2 Soundtrack
