Kick-Off Event: Finding Your Groove: A Music Career Fair for 6th-12th Graders
Get ready to kick off our summer program in style! Join us on May 30th for our highly anticipated Music Industry Career Fair. This exceptional event presents an incredible opportunity for students to connect with industry professionals who have worked with renowned artists like Justin Timberlake, such as the talented producer and guitarist Elliot Ives. Gain invaluable insights into various facets of the music industry, including song production, media placement, design and marketing, media training, and building essential relationships in the entertainment world. Following the career fair, students not enrolled for the summer will have the chance to audition and join us for the rest of the month! Don’t miss out on this amazing chance to ignite your music career.
Film Program and Scholarships
Thanks to WKNO’s generous funding, we’re thrilled to offer a film program designed for students with a passion for filmmaking. Professional filmmakers and special guests will teach and mentor the students throughout the month, helping them refine their craft. As part of the program, students will create short films exploring the theme of “Iconic America/Iconic Memphis.” These films will be showcased during the grand finale at Overton Shell on July 24th. Join us for a special viewing party hosted by WKNO, where we’ll celebrate the students’ hard work. The winning film will even receive a grand prize of $1,500.
Mindfulness and Musicology
We believe in nurturing the whole person, so each day will begin with mindfulness exercises to help students regulate their emotions and work together productively. In addition to mindfulness, students will delve into the ins and outs of the music business through our Musicology classes. They will receive valuable musical instruction through group and sectional rehearsals, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching experience.
Collaborative Learning Experiences
We understand the importance of collaboration and community engagement. That’s why we’ve planned exciting offsite learning experiences to foster connections among our students and their community. On the second Friday of the camp, Red Carpet Day will uplift students as the artists they are. And on the third Friday, we’ll have a songwriting competition in honor of Les Paul’s 108th birthday. These events will inspire creativity and bring our students together in a supportive and exciting atmosphere.
Grand Finale Concert
The culmination of our summer program will be the Grand Finale concert at the iconic Overton Park Shell on June 24th. Join us as we celebrate the talents and achievements of our students in a spectacular showcase of music, creativity, and joy. It’s an event you won’t want to miss!
The Summer Music Experience will take place May 3o – June 24, 2023, and is open to all 6th-12th graders. Auditions are required and you may click the link to fill out an interest form and sign up for an audition slot.
