The W. C. Handy Memphis Home & Museum will celebrate its Grand Reopening Saturday, August 10, 2019 beginning at 12:00 noon. After being closed for the past six months, Heritage Tours will resume management of the Handy Museum, having reached an agreement with the City of Memphis. The reopening festivities will begin with a parade on Beale Street to the W. C. Handy Museum (Beale & Fourth) where there will be a ceremony, performances by local blues musicians and singers, the Stax Music Academy Jazz Band, the Hollywood Show Liner Line Dancers, and others. In conjunction with the museum reopening, the celebration will also serve as a Memphis Bicentennial event. Handy’s compositions of the “Memphis Blues” and “Beale Street Blues” gave Memphis its identity as the “Home of the Blues.”
Hours of operation are Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.
