Napa Cafe’s Eighth Annual Heart Full of Soul to benefit the Stax Music Academy November 11, 2019

For the eighth year in a row, this November 11, 2019, Memphis’ ultra-popular Napa Café in Sanderlin Center will become home to one of the hottest fundraisers of the year, Heart Full of Soul to benefit the Stax Music Academy.

The event begins with a reception at 5:30 pm, followed by a multi-course dinner paired with special wines and a very special tribute to the Memphis Horns performed live cabaret-style throughout the dinner by students of the Stax Music Academy. Tickets are $200 per person and may be purchased HERE.

To date, Napa Café has raised approximately $200,000 for the nonprofit Stax Music Academy, which is located adjacent to the Stax Museum of American Soul Music at the original site of Stax Records in Memphis. This year’s presenting sponsor is Radians.

The Memphis Horns, formed by Stax Records stalwarts Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love in June 1969 upon their departure from Stax, celebrate their 50th anniversary this year as the most sought-after and accomplished horn section in music history. The list of artists with whom they performed and recorded reads like the most prestigious list of who’s who in the music business: Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Rod Stewart, The Doobie Brothers, Stephen Stills, Joe Cocker, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, Peter Gabriel, U2, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond, James Taylor, and dozens of others who called on the men with the magic horns to add a little Memphis soul to a wide variety of projects that helped shape rock-and- roll as we know it. The two performed on 52 Number One records, 112 Top Ten records, 83 Gold & Platinum records and 15 Grammy winners. In 2012, the Memphis Horns were the recipients of the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award. Love passed later that year Jackson passed away in 2016.

According to Napa Café owner Glenda Hastings, “We started this idea as a simple wine dinner eight years ago, not knowing this would eventually become the second-largest fundraiser of the year for the students of the Stax Music Academy. We couldn’t be more grateful to those who make this a sold-out function now for the past few years, and we can’t think of any more apropos theme for this year than to celebrate the accomplishments of these incredible musicians.”
